Summer time is the perfect opportunity to do fun service projects as a family. I have focused mostly on local ideas in the Monthly Make a Difference Challenge, but there are so many other amazing ideas and organizations that are making a difference around the world which you can get involved in.
I received an email that had information on the organization, Friends of Yimbo. This reminded me again of the great need there is and the ability we all have to make a difference and to teach our children the importance of helping those less fortunate. It is a win-win for all involved.
Friends of Yimbo (FOY) is a non-profit organization that works with the people of Yimbo village in western Kenya. Founded by Ben and Charles Odipo, FOY is a collective effort of friends around the world. These friends have a strong desire to help the people of Yimbo, and believe that by changing one life at a time FOY will and can empower an entire community to achieve a better life.
I like organizations that offer a variety of ways to get involved. There is a group of families already getting together this summer to raise money for school uniforms. These uniforms are only $10 each, a very reasonable price that any family would be able to contribute. Get your children involved in raising part of the money and being able to contribute by doing extra chores, collecting bottles or doing another fundraising idea.
