Welcome to this very first Power of Moms Radio Show! April and Saren (Co-Founders of Power of Moms) are excited to invite you into their conversation each week as they discuss ideas, stories, and experiences that help them to become happier, more deliberate mothers.
Here’s what you’ll find in this week’s show:
- A variety of ways to evaluate your year (What are we becoming?)
- How to record the growth in your life and the really great experiences you don’t want to forget
- Practical tips for being more present
- Questions to ask yourself when you’re deciding which activities deserve your time. (For example, “What is my job? What isn’t my job?”)
- Motivation to work toward bite-sized change.
- How to emphasize relationships and character-building
- How to choose your priorities based on what you really love and what’s unique to you
- Ways to make reflection, resolutions, and change a regular part of your life–not just something that you do at the beginning of the year.

Okay, so this comment is going to be a novel.
First of all, both of you ladies are so inspiring! Thank you for everything you do for this mothering community. I want you to know that when I did my personal reflection for the year 2012, I wrote that one of the “highlights” was becoming an editor for The Power of Moms. This organization has blessed my life so much already–and I can’t wait to see how it continues to bless me and my family in the years to come. I love that The Power of Moms is so much more than a website–it really is a community that thousands of women feel a part of. Amazing.
Saren, do you play your “highlight” photos as a slideshow for your family? (You can do that by simply putting all your photos in one folder or iPhoto album and pushing “view as slideshow”–no extra work required.) There is just something about photos put to music that is so touching. I think it would be an awesome NYEve tradition (or FHE the first week of the new year) to get a projector and watch the family slideshow with music with the kiddos.
One of my goals for 2013 is to be the kind of person that people feel like they can call on a whim when they need to talk–to be a real friend who isn’t too busy for people. When I was in high school, my best friend started to pull away from me, and I didn’t understand why. When I talked to her about it, she said, “I just feel like you are always too busy. I don’t want our friendship to be a burden.” Shocked and saddened, I replied, “But I always make time for you, Jenny!” Her response is what has always stayed with me: “I don’t want a best friend who has to make time for me. I don’t want to feel like a burden if I call for some advice or randomly want to hang out when I am having a bad day.” That was profound for me. Sadly, I haven’t changed much in the 11 years since that conversation, but it is something I have often thought about. I recently started using Mind Organization for Moms, and I think it is going to help me with this goal to be less busy and less stressed and more available for the people I love.
Thank you for all you do!!! You are making a difference!
