Today’s podcast is simply one side of a conversation between me and you where I talk about the following topics:
– “Mommy is a Person.” It’s easy for us to become “responders” and even “people pleasers,” but it’s totally possible to balance the love we have for our families with our personhood.
– The importance of holding onto our personal power. Please learn from my mistakes. It’s been a painful road, but I’m coming back.
– The process of acknowledging how much we ARE doing. I’ve had some conversations with a variety of mothers lately who are going through a lot, but often do not realize it. This needs to change for all of us.
– How to plan our lives in a way that makes sense. I’ll walk you through David Allen’s Natural Planning Model and explain how it can help!
– How we can be catalysts of change. I’ll share a story from 10 years ago when Eric and I wanted to start a home business and make some other big changes in our lives, but all we had was a tight, cramped, cluttered office–and no energy to do anything but watch TV at night.

April, this podcast hit me at so many places. I always think of myself as not good enough, not doing enough. I never give myself time, and I don’t have any support to help me get more time for myself. The podcast really helped me forgive myself. Thank you.
April Perry says
So glad to hear that, Elizabeth! It’s funny because when we hear OTHER people say those things, it sounds crazy. Like, “Of course we should be gentle on ourselves!” But when we say it inside our own heads, we often believe it. Very grateful to have you here with us at Power of Moms!

The question “If I were to feel thrilled about my life each day, what would it look like?” is so powerful! I first wrote my list answering that question a couple years ago, and the results were enlightening. Just seeing the list helped me feel less stressed and gave me clarity on what I wanted and what I needed to do. Regularly reviewing and occasionally revising the answer to this question has been so helpful to me.

So glad you’re doing this too! I just did mine yesterday/today, and the focus is amazing, once I finally get it! 🙂 I realized what I want is more time to think, read, study, pray, and process ideas–so my daily decisions and projects need to reflect that. So proud of you, Heidi!

Thanks for this Podcast, its nice to know that I am not the only one going through this. I’ve learned to put myself first, because without me, nothing else will matter. For now on, I will work on decluttering maybe once or twice a week from the inside and out.
April Perry says
So smart, Dominique!! I’m glad you’ve learned that important lesson, and I love your goal! Thanks so much for sharing!

This was so great to listen to April, thank you! I love the outline of this process, I’ve just written it all down and plan to do it tomorrow morning. And if I don’t finish in the time I have it’s given me a good reason to get up a little earlier each day until I have. I have felt really discouraged recently and I love having a map to pull myself back into creating my life instead of just reacting to it. Thank you, as ever! xx
April Perry says
Love that you are going through that process! You are doing amazing work, Emily. I think of you often, and while we all get discouraged, it hurts my heart to think of you feeling that way. xoxoxo

Oh bless you April, thank you. I got half way through it on Sunday, it was great! I will finish it this week, what’s been amazing has been seeing the simple little steps I can take to make something that feels almost impossible seem a lot more doable. I know this is what you’ve been saying all along (!), but when I apply it to my dreams and goals it’s amazing how simple it seems. Thank you again! xxxxx
