I Learn So Much “Nose to Nose”

I was not prepared to be in any pictures the day this was taken. My hair wasn’t done, I had no makeup on, and definitely not a cute outfit! When our photographer suggested I be in the picture with him, I protested…but obviously lost. I’m so glad I did, because this has become one of my favorite pictures ever!

This particular child, has been my most emotionally and behaviorally challenging child. In Aiden’s short six years he has taught me a lot about how I can be a better mom. He has taught me to be flexible. He has taught me that things don’t always go as planned. He has taught me to be spontaneous and that sometimes the unplanned things turn out to be the best! It works best when I get on his level, “nose to nose”, to talk with him.

That’s probably why I love this picture so much. I have learned to hold him, laugh with him and always remember how much I love him!

I loved what you had to say about getting nose to nose… the best way to communicate with and understand our kids is to get on their level.  This level is not lower… simply different.  It also offers a refreshing perspective.  We as mothers are busy, but, as our children grow it is amazing to see the pressures of life put on them, and even more impressive is the effort and strength they put forth to rise to the occasion.  Our job is important because… they are important.  What an amazing generation!
