I love to expose my children to other countries through music. One specific album that comes to mind is Wee Sing: Songs Around the World.
“Little Passports” looks like a really fun way to introduce some global awareness to kids! Books are great (and we read lots of books here in our house) but having the story, craft, passport, map, etc all together really would help reinforce the information. And even in our fast paced digital world- what kid doesn’t love getting something in the mail?
We try to teach out kids about the world through reading books- both fiction and nonfiction, keeping up with the lives of a few international missionary friends, and supporting Heifer International at the holidays. We want to begin supporting a child through Compassion or World Vision as well. I think being able to write to a child that way would be a learning experience for us all.
This would be wonderful. My two oldest, 8 & 10, are beginning to really get interested in other countries. This would help them explore on their own and learn about different cultures!
What a fun idea! My kids are still pretty young (my oldest is 3), but we have puzzles with maps of the world on them…and we love to do those together and talk about the places 🙂
I have not personally done anything to make my children globally aware, but their preschool teacher has done a wonderful job of doing it. Every week they learn about a new country and will have a party at the end of the week with traditional clothing, songs, and food.
This looks so fun! I’m 12 and a blogger too. My mom is a huge Power of Moms fan. You such a cute girl! I hope I win!
Our “global awareness” usually centers around food from other countries.
Since both my husband and I have lived in foreign countries, we take turns having themed dinners where we try to only speak in the language of the country we lived in. Also, this summer we are having specific country themes where we’re going to research, make food, decorate, etc for specific countries.
Looks awesome, Alia! We have many conversations about other parts of the world, but haven’t done too many formal events/night. We do always celebrate Chinese New Year as we have always had Chinese friends where we’ve lived. This passport looks like so much fun!
I’ve seen this product before and really love it. About a year ago, my kids kept begging to travel to places all over the world. So I created Passports for them, checked out books from the library, looked up videos on the Internet, and “took” them to other lands. It was very enjoyable.
This kit is awesome for my boys who are ready to go see alaska.
Just booked our son’s first international trip. This would be a good preparation tool.
My daughter is still young, 16 months, but we Skype with family and friends all over the world. I haven’t done this yet, but I would like to get a globe for our family to become more globally aware.
I love the concept of Little Passports!
What a great product! My kids are still very young (my oldest is 4). I feel like we are trying to teach him about the states in our own nation right now – but the concept of other places seems tough to grasp. My plans for the next year include getting a globe and a world map puzzle and try to expand our horizons. Thanks for sharing this fun product! 🙂
My husband traveled a lot while my kids were young, so the 5 and 7 year olds are always planning trips to China, Spain, South Africa, etc. This would be fun to help them get some actual information.
We love to show videos and read stories about other countries as well as try food that is new to us.
