I really connected with Saren when she said, “I’m a homeschooler at heart.” Before staying home with my children, I was an elementary teacher (public school) and have my masters in science education. So everyday I am finding teachable moments both inside and out in nature. (My husband is an environmental educator so they get a lot of science from us – haha!).
We have our kids in the public school now and I often feel so conflicted – should I homeschool, should I not? I LOVE having my kids home! But I’m also looking forward to when I can get all the “stuff” done while they’re at school so I can be super present when they get home. Currently, 2 of my 4 kiddos are school aged – so I’m not quite at that point yet…
It is such a mental struggle that I go back and forth with so often. Thankfully, our school is great and the teachers and staff are wonderful! I support them however I can and have developed a great relationship with them. I am glad you conquered this tough topic. It is hard and can be controversial to many, but really it is a decision every family needs to decide for every child. One of the families I admire as far as educating their kiddos most is one that has 3 children. One is home schooled, one is in public and one in private – – I just love the openness to whatever is best!
Once again, you ladies deliver just what I need to hear – so thank you!!
