This was a fun podcast to listen to, but I am a bit disappointed that you only had two views represented: pure public school, and a variety of public and charter schools, mixed. I think this podcast would have greatly benefited from a third host who purely homeschools her children. There are so many complexities and so much that is misunderstood, that even people who think they understand, but have never done it, don’t really “get” it. Educational enrichment activities at home are a wonderful thing, but they do not comprehend the breadth and width of excellent homeschooling. As one who has had children in public and charter schools, and one who currently homeschools, I am grateful for the respect that was given to each form of schooling. Next time however, I hope that each viewpoint can be given an opportunity to speak for itself. I hope you know that I do enjoy the podcasts though, and look forward to each new one. Thank you ladies!

I think that’s a great point, Jennifer! And I absolutely agree it would be wonderful to do additional radio shows with guests who purely homeschool or who have different educational backgrounds than me or Saren. That was one of my initial concerns when recording this show, but Saren and I thought of it more as a “conversation starter” than a thorough review. Love to hear your thoughts!

I love Jennifer’s feedback. I also agree. I think a discussion about options for schooling would definitely be enriched by discussion with a homeschooling mom so all areas are represented with the breadth and depth (as Jennifer said) that they should have. There is such a difference between taking on stewardship of your children’s education on your own, and supplementing it at home after a traditional school experience.
I would also liked to have heard more of some of the great quotes from mom’s who responded on that topic.
Power of Moms does such a great job of rallying women from all walks of life. I love that discussions like this are being spotlighted so we can all support the diversity and wonder that make all our lives unique. I too LOVE the podcasts and look forward to every one. Thank you!

The whole podcast will not play…it stops at around 3 minutes and re-starts. I tried listening to it in my podcast app but you can only listen to the last 100 episodes so the archives do not go back that far. I’d love to listen to it. I’m having such a difficult time deciding how to school my daughter next fall when she begins kindergarten. Thanks!
