It’s not every day that you get to interview one of your life mentors. And that is exactly what I had the chance to do this week.
David Allen, the international bestselling author of Getting Things Done® joins us on Power of Moms Radio to announce the release of the newly-revised edition of his book–and to offer hope, support, and practical how-tos for mothers who want relief from piles of papers, emails, tasks, and projects (that too often keep us up at night).
Getting Things Done® is the book that inspired our Mind Organization for Moms program at Power of Moms–which is helping more than 10,000 mothers worldwide to apply David’s principles to their family lives. Why have I spent more than 2,000 hours building this program and teaching it to deliberate mothers? Listen to today’s episode and hear from the source exactly why this philosophy is so life-changing.

GTD® Video featuring David and April
Wow, what an inspiring interview! Thank you for pursuing this opportunity. Totally refreshes my determination to use the system more completely in my life. You did a great job leading the interview, April. Good questions, and I loved your own commentary too. AND I got all my laundry folded from 11pm-midnight… Hooray!
Thanks so much, Shawna! I feel so grateful to have had the opportunity to talk with David. Good luck with all your projects, and congrats on getting the laundry folded by midnight. 🙂
I was really disappointed in this interview as it was more of a David Allen fan club session than anything. As someone who has not yet read his books I was hoping for a little more content and a little less stories about people that love David Allen. Even one or two practical tips to inspire would have been helpful but instead I feel like I just wasted 40 minutes listening to how great David Allen is.
Hi Anne!
I am so, so sorry that this podcast wasn’t what you expected. I absolutely understand what it’s like to spend valuable time on something and not feel awesome about it. 🙂
Perhaps it would help if I outlined a few simple takeaways from the podcast that inspired me?
(1) The Two-Minute Rule: If you can do anything in two minutes or less, do it–don’t write it down.
(2) Get everything out of your head. Instead of relying on our brains to remember things for us, get everything out–even if it’s just a notebook by the side of your bed.
(3) Focus on getting “Clean, Current, and Creative.” Before making super long lists, clean up your environment, check up on your calendar/anything overdue, and then apply your energy to creating something wonderful…whether that is personally or professionally. (Sometimes that just means enjoying our families more!)
Because this podcast was more theoretical, I’ve included a link in the Show Notes to our “Master the Whirlwind” eCourse which is totally free and shows you how to start applying GTD to your life today.

Hope that’s helpful, and thanks so much for being part of our community!
xo
I completely agreed with Anne — I was pretty bitter that I spent 40 minutes that I didn’t have to listen to, essentially, a commercial. HOWEVER, the link that you provided and the brief outline was very very helpful. Thanks for providing that!
I am looking forward to reading this book! I read the first book years ago and have set up (well… almost) my M.O.M system. This interview got me motivated to do more and to teach the system to my kids and my husband. I follow POM mostly from the shadows without commenting, but just wanted to say thanks again for all your great programs and podcasts, etc. You guys are the BEST! I recommend your website to friends all the time.
Did I understand correctly in this interview that the 2015 edition of his book isn’t just for business oriented people? I picked up the first version and it was hard to maintain my interest because I didn’t feel like I was the target audience at all. If this version is intended for a different or wider audience I’d definitely pick it up though. Thanks.
The target audience is the same, I believe, but that’s why I have my “Master the Whirlwind” EBook–to help moms adapt the information. 🙂
