Title: You: Staying Young: The Owner’s Manual for Extending Your Warranty
Author: Michael F. Roizen, Mehmet C. Oz
Genre: Physical Fitness
Basic Overview:
This book has been widely publicized, so you most likely know the basic premise. It is “The Owner’s Manual for Extending Your Warranty.” The book goes through your basic body systems and then discusses how they function best and what we can do to stay feeling our best. Young is less and how you look and more about your quality of life, energy and preventing disease.
Parts I Liked Best:
I like that the book is written in a comical way that makes it an interesting read. Don’t be fooled, it is very technical, like an anatomy class, but is still user friendly. It is written so that you can skip around and read less if short on time. I was fascinated by how much I didn’t know about my own body. I like the idea of taking preventive measures while younger, to keep my body working well and energy levels up. If we don’t care for ourselves, how can we be good moms?
How This Book Made an Impact In My Life, Especially as a Mother (or why I just really liked it):
I was very interested in what an emphasis they put on stress having such a negative effect on our bodies. I am a pretty healthy person and would guess that my heart is in a pretty healthy state…except when you add stress to the equation. What mother doesn’t have stress? I didn’t realize how dangerous it really is. They can’t say enough about the positive impact meditation has in your life.
