Title: Healthy, Happy You: 365 Daily Micro-Actions for Lasting Change
Authors: Nora Rosendahl, Nelli Lahteenmaki, and Aleski Hoffman
Basic Overview:
When I first heard about Healthy Happy You I have to admit, I was more than excited. Personal growth and development is something I am always thinking about. As a busy mom who spends a large part of her day running here and there, I don’t have large amounts of time to focus on myself. That is why the idea behind this book got me excited.
The book states: “Your life is the sum of the small micro-actions you do every day, and every choice you make is significant.” A micro-action is created by taking an idea and breaking it down into a small and simple action. For example, the book says running a marathon is not a micro-action but taking the stairs is. I realized that while I had been motivated to change and grow, the methods I had tried were simply too big and not focused on making small changes.
What I Liked Best:
This book is to be used in whatever way is most effective for you. There are 365 micro-action exercises listed— all centered around the categories of food, mind, move, and love. You can follow it like a calendar or skip around. Keep it on your nightstand to complete each evening or carry it with you for when you have a free moment.
There are areas with specific writing prompts, but I also enjoyed writing thoughts and impressions directly under each micro-action. There is a check box on each page so you can track what you’ve done, but feel free to repeat your favorites, as this is what will create a habit. The book says, “Having a habit means your brain does it on autopilot, and it can last you a lifetime.” As you repeat these “keep it up” actions, you form a habit.
How This Book Made An Impact In My Life:
After using this book for a month, I have come to echo its message that “small changes can have a big impact.” I have seen large growth in my own life come as a result of doing these daily micro-actions and repeating the ones I enjoy to create a new habit. It gives me something small to focus on each day and I love being able to put a check in the box each evening.
I have learned new things about myself and have begun using the YOU app, developed by these same authors, in addition to Healthy, Happy You. Even my children have joined me in trying some of these micro-actions like writing down one thing you like about yourself and two minute workouts. This book and each micro-action is so simple but when practiced, can reap huge benefits in your life.

This book sounds great! I love the idea of small decisions bringing about big change over time. So encouraging!
This book sounds wonderful. I have loved all of the books you recommend on your site. Love Power of Moms so much!
I love these kinds of books! Beside my bedside, when I finally get a few minutes to be by myself and sit down. Lately, I haven’t been finding much time to read full books, like I used to. I hope I win!!!!
This book sounds really appealing to me, especially as a person who doesn’t like to make drastic changes in order to achieve healthy or happy results. I think it’s easier to make smaller changes to establish more long-longing results, and, as mothers, with busy schedules, we’re more likely to make micro-changes than macro-changes anyway. For example, I can easily change my habits to take the stairs, but I cannot very easily train to run a marathon! Ha! Thank you for sharing this book with us!
I’m adding this to my reading list. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for the review. It’s good timing for me to read this and start making little habit changes.
I love new books:) It sounds great!
I am interested in any book written by a fellow adoptive mom and am looking forward to reading this one and learning to make small but significant changes.
It’s great when you can break down goals and habits to manageable chunks. Should great!
Thank you for sharing this. Lately I have been using the concept of “compound interest” in my life, meaning that small actions grow in impact over time, for better or worse. I hope this book will provide further ideas and inspiration. I am adding it to my wishlist.
Sounds like a book I could really use to help me remember that little things can make a difference! I love that it has space to write your thoughts!! I’d love this book!
