Power of Moms is all about moms helping other moms become the mothers and people they really want to be. We're a gathering place for deliberate mothers interested in growing through motherhood – not just going through motherhood. Our overall vision is to offer moms around the world the chance to “network” with other moms who share their same values, motivations, hopes and dreams. We aim to help moms take care of the person inside the mom, while taking care of their families.

You are awesome, Allyson! I have to admit, that a trip to the dentist never feels like a trip to the spa (could it be because I had an unplanned extraction and implant a couple of weeks ago? $$$), but it is nice to sit in the dentist’s waiting room and read without being interrupted by my kids. 🙂

Unplanned extraction? I had two this year and now need implants. 6 grand each!! So awful. You made it sound so simple. ..didn’t you have to wait awhile with a hole before you got the implant? How was the actual I’m ant was it awful? Dreading it .

If I manage to run errands without any kids, I will try to take an extra few minutes to just enjoy walking slowly up and down the aisles.

Cute stories! I can relate! For example, you know you’re a mom if you’re trying to sneak away for just 5 minutes of privacy in the bathroom and while you are in there you see your 5 year old’s painted toe nails peek out from under the door because she is standing SO close to the bathroom door. When you ask her what she’s doing she replies with, “Nothing, I’m just waiting for you!”

I am a homeschool mom. I have four kids. My oldest just went to college this year. I also have 14 year old, 10 year old and an 8 year old. I love to read and Facebook when I have just a couple of minutes or a couple of hours of alone time. My kids are old enough now to do a good bit by themselves.

Sometimes when I pull in the driveway after running errands without my kids and no one notices I’m home, I’ll recline the front seat and try to take a little nap or read the mail without anyone noticing…

Love the dentist! I even read a book! In the past, I have been to the dentist with a toddler sitting on my chest while I had my teeth cleaned, so not so much alone time that time.

I’ve been known to hide out in the bathroom, I never tried the sit in the car trick, my kids usually hear the garage door and come running! But I DO go extra slowly when running errands without my kids…
I love this Allyson! You are too cute! And this is so true… I totally do that. Sometimes I tell Maybrie I need a “time out” in the bathroom. Sometimes I stay up too late at night simply cause I am enjoy the quiet and alone time so much!

I was just at the dentist yesterday, and it was so nice to put my feet up for an hour! And I definitely escape to the bathroom. My latest response to my children is “can I do ______ for you while I’m in the bathroom?” (Get a drink, find a toy, etc). They will answer “no” and then (often) leave. But they always no where to find me.

I vacuum. The white noise of the vacuum muffles the chaos all around (kind of) and I can think or zone out a little while I take my time getting behind furniture and all the edges. The kids can see me, so they aren’t usually clamoring for my attention, but if they try to talk to me, I pretend I can’t hear them because the vacuum is on. If they persist, I can say, “What was that? You want to vacuum for me? Oh, thank you!” And then they scatter.

My most reliable trick is the words “I have a list of jobs I need help with today.” Works every time. Now that I have older kids I will sometimes offer them the choice of a list of jobs to do or to take the kids to the park, movie, where ever for a few hours. That is win/win for everyone.

You know you’re a mom if at the end of a long day you run your fingers through your hair and they catch on a bandaid! Talk about a mommy low… 🙂
