We posed this question to our community and received great responses. In this show, April and Saren build on the comments we received.
Key themes include:
- Take care of yourself – do whatever is necessary to get yourself the sleep you need.
- Give yourself a pass. If you feed your family super basic meals, use paper plates, let your older kids watch more TV than normal, and suspend extracurricular activities during those first couple months of your new baby’s life, it’s OK!
- Remember that what’s right for other people and their babies isn’t necessarily what will work for you and your baby. Ask around and read up but in the end, you’ll need to try out different things and see what actually works best in your situation.
- Seek and accept help from others. Help others understand what would be most helpful to you.
- Cherish the beautiful newborn moments – they are so fleeting.

As a mother of 7 children I really enjoyed this post and agreed with both of your thoughts! By the time our 5th child was born I had finally figured out how quickly babies grow up and I felt like a did a better job of enjoying the little moments with a newborn. Our 7th is 6 months old, and I am so sad to see how quickly these fun baby stages pass. I like the suggestion to give yourself a pass!
You are incredible, Tasha! Love to hear that you are enjoying your new baby. So inspiring!
