From excessive accessories to underage make up, it seems young girls are increasingly more obsessed with their looks. Don’t get me wrong, I like to look nice too but, is that what I want myself or my daughters to be known for?
Beauty Pageants and Teaching Moments
I was washing the dishes one evening, and turned on the television for a distraction. The screen was suddenly filled with an array of beautiful young women. They waltzed across the stage with huge smiles, gorgeous hair, and stunning evening gowns. Then the audience grew by four when my four young daughters caught a glimpse of this opulent display of femininity.
The Rich Family
I know many families (and retailers) have already moved into the Christmas season, but we are still enjoying the benefits of Thanksgiving. I can’t think of a better segue into the Christmas season than that of expressing gratitude for blessings.
Thanks and Giving: How To Be “The Rich Family in Church”
Eddie Ogan’s story, “The Rich Family in Church” illustrates perfectly how giving to others can fill us with contentment and gratitude for our lives, even if we appear poor in the eyes of others.
Kiki Comin: Letting Kids Run Their Own Races
I am the lucky and blessed “trainer” who gets to introduce my kids to new things, watch them struggle, teach, teach, teach, and watch them get stronger. Just when I think I get to actually go “run the race” with them, they remind me that it is not my job.
How Cool Are You?
It seems that more than ever the moms of today want to be cool and hip. I can only imagine how silly this must seem to my own mother. Of course, trends of “coolness” have always been around, but it seems we’re obsessed with celebrity moms.

Dressing the Part
As a work-at-home mom I don’t venture out much during the day. With five young children, my husband and I rarely go out either because the logistics are far too complicated. (None of our children are old enough to babysit, and asking a friend to take five children for the evening feels like too much.
Dropping Out of the Mommy Rat Race
I attended my first yoga class years ago. It was at 4 pm and I was specifically looking at a girl in the front row who could easily touch her toes. And I wasn’t just looking. I was trying to catch up to her. Just then, the instructor said, “Do not compare yourself to your neighbor. Let go of competition.” I was caught.
Mama Duck
I nearly missed it. I was on my way to fill up my gas tank at Costco. The brown blur on the street moved! I had to stop my car. The man behind me in the white sedan wasn’t happy as he sped past, but he couldn’t see what I saw. You see, once I noticed the […]
Will YOU Dare to Dream? – Episode 8
Today I had the privilege of podcasting with Whitney Johnson, a talented mother of two and the inspiration behind the blog, “Dare to Dream.” I feel so inspired from the experience, and I’m excited to share our conversation. Do you feel like nurturing your talents is nearly impossible if you’re simultaneously trying to be a […]
Picking a Fight
Appreciating another’s individuality is a lovely idea, except for the fact that individuality sometimes scares us.
