This book has been widely publicized, so you most likely know the basic premise. It is “The Owner’s Manual for Extending Your Warranty.” The book goes through your basic body systems and then discusses how they function best and what we can do to stay feeling our best. Young is less and how you look and more about your quality of life, energy and preventing disease.

This is not Nicholas Sparks’ usual love story. It is a memoir written with his brother of their adventurous three week trip around the world together. As they travel they reflect on their life growing up and how their experiences affected each of them in different ways.

This is a book full of kid friendly concoctions. Fun things to do on a rainy day type projects. Think rock crystal garden and the classic slime, but with 75 more. This book and its sequel are available at Amazon, on Public Television drives and I’ve seen a set at Costco.

One of the goals I have been working on, as a stay at home mother, is finding the joy my daily activities.  Somehow, my life has become dare I say monotonous.  It of course is not that I don’t have enough to do, just that I often feel underappreciated, overworked and that my efforts often are not working.  One of the things I struggle with the most is the daily chores.  I detest the things that are never checked off my list, the making the beds, doing dishes, making dinner, sweeping the floor, etc.  They are never done, and even when I do them and take pride in my work, I know they will be back to do all over again tomorrow.

Basic Overview:  I feel the title here is a little bit of a misnomer.  The book is not much about getting your kids to read, but rather a resource to use to expose your child to a variety of quality literature.  The author does an amazing job of creating lists based on age as well as topics.  Is your child interested in science, learning about countries, princesses?  Do they need help with the adjustment of a new sibling, or character development?  What books should you read to your toddler?  All these lists and many more are at your disposal in this book.  I have loved this book enough to purchase it, but it would also be good to just borrow from the library.

Before children, I had a promising career in education.I was a talented and enthusiastic teacher. I had worked my way up to teaching many in-service programs, teaching courses at a University and working at the district office. I knew I would put it all on hold when I had children, I wanted to be a stay at home mother, and felt lucky to be one.  I just wasn’t prepared for how hard it would be.

Our family tradition of identifying and sharing our "sweet" and our "sour" of each day has helped me to enjoy the fun moments and the crazy ones.  This article tells about how I learned to accept the challenges of being a mom.
