What?  He WET the dresser?  This is what I asked our babysitter when I got home the other night.  The best part?  I've finally learned to laugh now.

He "Wet" the Dresser
My husband and I had a meeting to attend the other night, so a sweet young girl in our neighborhood came over to babysit for a couple of hours.  My husband and I had put the baby down, fed the children, gotten everyone in their pajamas, made sure all the teeth were brushed, and gave instructions for bedtime at 7:30 or 8.  Simple, right?

We walked in the door at 9:30 and were surprised that our babysitter was nowhere to be seen.  Upon hearing some little voices upstairs, we went up to find the sitter and our three oldest children in my son's room.  Our oldest child issued the report: "Ethan wet the dresser."  I wasn't sure if I was hearing right.  He hadn't wet the bed in years, and what was this about the dresser?

It turns out that he'd been "encouraged" by his older sister to sleep on the dresser, since it had just been moved into his room that day, and new pieces of furniture are just asking to be slept on.  He'd taken his pillow and blankets and made a little bed on it, and then sometime between the time he went to bed and when we got home, he'd had an accident (but I'm convinced he just thought it would be fun to tinkle on a dresser).

Ordinarily, I'd be pretty upset, but this time, the "seasoned" mom in me kicked in, and the situation actually seemed hilarious right from the start.  I didn't let my son know that, of course.  He got all cleaned up, received a good "talking to" and went right to bed, but I have been giggling to myself about this for the past two days.  Who wets a DRESSER?  Who SLEEPS on a dresser?  This is just good material.

The dresser is as good as new, the laundry is done, my son has promised he will sleep in his bed from now on, and now I've got a great story to tell someday when all his friends are over.  Children are funny.  Life is funny.  I hope I never forget how to laugh about it.
