Having a clean, clutter free home contributes to feelings of contentment and peace. This month, rid yourself of the clutter in your home and donate some of your items that are seldom used to your local charity. Doing so will make your home easier to clean and easier to keep clean (which is pretty much exhilarating) and will help you to actually find what you are looking for. Plus, you get the satisfaction of doing something for those who are less fortunate.
Here are some tips to help you on your way:
Spend just 15 minutes a day decluttering your home. This month start with the most cluttered area and work your way around your house doing just 15 minutes a day.
Seriously consider getting rid of items you haven’t used in over one year.
While you are sorting your linen closets, storage rooms, play rooms, and the rest of the house, remember that getting rid of the clutter in your house somehow simultaneously feels like you are getting rid of clutter in your mind (hooray!).
When you are sorting, use the knowledge that you are donating these items to charity to help you be more generous in what you decide you might want to live without.
When you identify items to get rid of or donate to your local charity, take them right to the trash or put them right in your car and make a point to drop them off the next time you are out running errands.
If you get too wrapped up in your dejunking or get pleasantly surprised by a big block of time to declutter, remember that in the sorting process a good rule of thumb is don’t take out more than you can put back in 20 minutes.
After you have finished decluttering your home try to tame the clutter that seems to accumulate so fast by donating one item to charity every time you buy a similar item for yourself (my thought is if I get a new shirt so should someone else).
