- Helpful Hints on How to Think
Another lesson I have learned is service. I have never served someone so much in my life, and I have never wanted to serve someone so much in my life. Your focus just changes; it is not about you anymore--it is about your children. I cannot work out, go out, eat, or sleep when I feel like it anymore.
When I was about to have a baby, a young mom came up to me and said, “You are seriously going to be like a slave, and I mean that in the best way possible.” I was totally shocked, but now I sort of understand. A slave is a harsh way of putting it, but, wow—I do so much for my children and my husband, but I really wouldn’t have it any other way. A professor of mine once explained that in order to truly love and know someone you must serve them. The people that know you best, have served you most in life. In giving service, we will find true joy.
Lastly, I have learned so much about love. You cannot comprehend how much you are capable of feeling before you are a mother. I was seriously worried when I was pregnant with Kate that there is no way I could possibly love another baby the same as Jack. I just thought it impossible. Can I just tell you how much I love Kate? I love her more than ever, and I did not lessen my love for Jack…there is just more love.
I am so very grateful to be mom, and I have truly learned so much more perspective, humility, service and love. I can't wait to find out what I'll learn next.
